Mon Sep 12 our leaving Yellowstone day

Mon Sep 12 Day 14 Rain showers in Yellowstone, mid 70’s when we got to Cody WY
We pulled out of the campground unhooked around 11:30 @ 143658 km & parked at the interpretive centre for one last look around West Yellowstone. We had lunch at a small ice cream & sandwich shop. I had a double buffalo burger, Sheila had a BBQ chicken wrap & we shared a Huckleberry milkshake. Sheila went back to the Historical Centre for one last look around. I hooked up. For the record, the central roads in Yellowstone look like a squashed figure 8. You have west, north, east, & south entrances which lead’s to what they call the grand loop, (even though it is two loops actually). The lower loop goes to Old Faithful, West Thumb and then up to Fishing Bridge to complete the loop. West Yellowstone is at 6,667 feet, we went part way around the upper loop through Norris at 7,526 ft, Canyon Village at 7,918 ft, Fishing Bridge at 7,735 ft. We headed out at 12:35. We stopped at the “Mud Volcano”, located in-between Canyon Village & Fishing Bridge, 1:55 to 2:15, (we left as rain started). We also saw 3 separate small herds of Buffalo on various clearings & fields not too far away but the road was crowded with cars stopped so we couldn’t get the RV with car off anywhere to try for a picture. On the east exit road we went over Sylvan pass at 8,530 ft before exiting the park at 6,951 ft at 3:20 @ 143786 km.
We pulled off the hwy at the Buffalo Bill Dam, which, when built in around 1910 was the highest cement dam in the world. It is 6 miles west of Cody. We arrived at the Ponderosa Campground about 5:30 at 143867 km. Cody is at 5016 ft, it is warmer and the night temps only go into the high 50’s, time to take blankets off the bed. After relaxing a bit we headed into town to check out the combo package deal of a buffet at the historic Irma hotel followed by a cowboy music review in the theatre across the road. Both were excellent, the buffet prime rib was nice & rare with real horseradish; they even had Oysters Rockefeller on the buffet, which I had heard of but never tried. The show, which was advertised as a Branson type cowboy music review was also excellent. We even bought the CD, great music.
We drove 209 km, 130 miles, to Cody
